Today I visited my local library with a sneaky offline marketing trick up my sleeve.
My local library in Aarhus, Denmark
I went to the section containing books on marketing. I was looking for books on internet marketing and viral marketing. But sadly there weren’t that many to choose from so I ended up borrowing 12 misc. marketing books. My library beeing located in Denmark quite a few of the books are in Danish;
- Tjen på Twitter – Markedsføring med 140 tegn by Jon Smith José Llinares
- Eating The Big Fish by Adam Morgan
- Bliv Set Online by Martin Skovgaard
- Trend Management by Henrik Vejlgaard
- Brand Hijack – Marketing Without Marketing by Alex Wipperfürth
- The Long Tail by Chris Anderson
- Internet Marketing an Hour a Day by Matt Bailey
- Online Branding by Lars Sandstrøm
- Brand Sense by Martin Lindstrøm
- e-værksætteren by Lea Skov Lindbæk
- Webcellence by Jens Strandbygaard
- Gonzo Marketing by Christopher Locke
I brought the books home and found the business cards I had recently bought on vistaprint.dk. These cards clearly states the URL of my blog and what my blog is all about; Aiming for 10K daily visitors in 12 months.
My business cards and library books on marketing
I placed a few cards in each of the books and returned them to the library.
Front and back of my business cards
Naturally I hope for the next person borrowing any of these books will be interested in marketing, find my business card inside, and visit my blog. I have no way of tracking this though so I’ll not be able to conclude anything from this experiment. If you copy this trick you could create a unique URL for your library experiment and thereby make it trackable.
Please let me know what you think.
